Summer 2 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome back after the Whitsun Break.

First we would like to offer our whole hearted thanks to the parents would helped their children prepare for SATs week.  The children worked extremely hard during this period and we feel that every child worked to the very best of their individual ability. We are very proud of them no matter what the outcome. The results will be published in the end of year reports.

This term our topic is entitled ‘Through the Window.’  The topic web attached to this letter outlines the areas we are covering in a range of subjects.  Our final school trip this year will be to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park on the 25th June.

Reading
Throughout the term we shall continue to listen to readers on a daily basis. Reading is such a valuable part of children’s learning and prizes and certificates are on their way to those children that have won a bronze, silver or gold medal. A huge thank you to all the parents that have listened to their children read. This time is precious!

Spellings
Spellings will continue to be given out on a Friday to learn for the following Friday. Please ensure that your child has time to practise these regularly during the week.  Children gaining 100% in each spelling test will be awarded a certificate of merit each Friday.

Science Targets
This half terms science targets are linked to our topic entitled ‘Plants.’

Targets

How well can I describe how seeds and bulbs grow into plants?

How well can I describe what plants need in order to stay healthy?

P.E.
This half term our P.E. lessons will continue to be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Please could you ensure that your child has their P.E. kit in school on these days and that they are not wearing any jewellery? If your child is not able to take their earrings out you must send them to school with earrings taped up on these days.  Alternatively children can bring their own tape into school and tape their earrings themselves. Weather permitting children may only require shorts and a t-shirt  although it is advisable to have a jumper for outdoor sessions.

PSHE
As stated in the letter sent out on the 5th June Year 2 children shall study Relationship and sex education. Please note that these lessons are age appropriate as stated in the above mentioned letter. The PSHE unit helps children to understand that our bodies develop at different rates. The children will also learn the correct names for the parts of the body, including the reproductive organs. Finally the unit will look at relationships within different types of families and describe special things they like to do with their families.
