PE Events and Competitions 2016-2017

Cross Country
Our Yr 2 boys and girls cross country team won their mini cluster league. The Yr 3/4 boys and girls team won the cluster league and progressed through to the District Final at Mount St Mary’s.  The Yr 5/6 boys and girls team both finished runners up so didn’t qualify for the District Final but 3 children qualified on an individual basis. In the District finals our Yr 3/4 girls’ team were runners up and the boy’s team came 4th. One of our Yr 3 girls placed 3rd individually, well done!

Infant Inclusion Festival
The year 2’s all took part in a sports festival at Heritage with other children in the cluster. This was not competitive but a chance for children to have fun and improve their PE skills.

Yr 5/6 Sports Hall Athletics
It was a great year for our Sports Hall Athletics Team. Not only did we win our Cluster competition but we then won the Partnership Final so we progressed through to the County Finals.

Yr 5/6 Tag Rugby Competition
A team of Yr 5/6 girls and boys took part in a Tag Rugby Tournament. They placed 3rd.

Basketball
We sent a team of Yr 5/6 children to a basketball tournament where they came third.

Gym Festival
The year 2s took part in a gym festival at Heritage with other local schools. They had a go at lots of different activities throughout the afternoon, led by the Heritage young leaders.

Dance Festival
Three different classes attended dance festivals this year. The reception children & year 1s, and a Yr 3/4 class all performed in non-competitive festivals at Heritage.  Class 6B performed in a dance competition at The Institute of Sport and won their competition!

Play Leaders
4 pupils also attended the play leader training with Mrs Hartley so we can hopefully improve our lunchtimes by having trained leaders on the playground delivering physical activities.

Year 3/4 Sports Festival
Both Yr3/4 classes went to a non-competitive sports festival at Heritage for the afternoon.

Tri Golf
Six year 6’s took part in a Tri Golf tournament at Barlborough Golf course. They were runners up.

Quad Kids
A team of 10 Yr 5&6's competed in a Quad Kids competition. (Athletics) They won the cluster event so went onto the district final where they placed 3rd out of 8.

Kwik Cricket
A team of year 5&6 children took part in the Kwik Cricket tournament and were runners up.

Athletics Team

As our Yr 5&6 Sports Hall Athletics team won our cluster competition they went through to the Bolsover District SSP Partnership Final. This was a fun, loud and nail biting evening and the result was decided on the very last relay of the night! Unfortunately we lost by one point so were crowned runners up this year. All 18 of our team performed brilliantly though and did Barlborough Primary School proud!

Cross Country

It was an amazing season for our Cross Country Teams. At the end of the league, after all the races had taken place, our Yr 2 girls team were runners up and and the rest of our teams (Yr 2 boys, Yr 3&4 boys and girls and Yr 5&6 boys and girls) were all winning teams! This meant our four Key Stage 2 teams then got to compete at the Bolsover District Finals at Mount Saint Mary's. This was a fantastic event where all our runners did us proud again and we came home with 3 of the 4 team prizes on offer and had 2 individual runners. See the competition report and photos below for more details.

Football

Football

In September our Yr 5&6 boy’s football team took part in the first Sainsbury’s School Games competition of the year. This was a mini soccer competition against other schools in our cluster. Our team played fantastically and were winners meaning they went through to the partnership final in October. At this event the boys again played fantastically and were crowned Bolsover District Champions after winning 4 matches and drawing 1. Our boys didn't let a single goal in and went on to represent Bolsover at the Derbyshire County Finals in November! The standard of football on display at this event was particularly high and it was a real achievement for our school team to be competing at county level and to place so high at the event. Congratulations boys, you represented our school so well. A huge thank you also to Mr Wright, Mr Buckton and Mr Greenough for all their coaching and support.

Overall results from the football county final:

Cross Country

There have been 2 Cross Country events so far this year and all our teams have shown incredible stamina as well as real team spirit. Well done Barlborough! Each of our teams – Yr 5&6 boys and girls, Yr 3&4 boys and girls and Yr 2 boys and girls are currently in first place. The next 2 races will be in the Spring Term when the nights are lighter again. (Feb 5th & March 5th.)

Sportshall Athletics

On Thursday 27th November 12 of our Yr 5 & 6 children took part in a Sports Hall Athletics Competition against other schools in our cluster. The children performed fantastically and the results were very tight right to the very end. It was a nail biting final relay race that our boys team had to win in order for us to be crowned overall winners but they did it! Well done Barlborough. We are wishing you all the best of luck at the Partnership Finals on January 27th

The first Cross Country Race of the season took place on Tuesday 24th September at Whitwell Primary School. We entered a Year 3/4 team and a Year 5/6 team. Both our teams ran brilliantly and placed first. Well done Barlborough!

The final 3 races will be held in March when the nights are lighter.

On Thursday 3rd October our Yr 5/6 football team competed against Whitwell & Hodthorpe Primary School. Despite the terrible weather conditions we won both games meaning we qualified for the Bolsover District Partnership Final on Thursday 10th October. Our team played really well in the final and were runners up. Well done boys!
