Class 5BF

Trip to the National Space Centre

Year 5 and 6 visited the National Space Centre in Leicester as part of our To Infinity and Beyond topic.  We found out about other planets in our solar system and how they are different to Earth and found out about what life is like in space for astronauts.  It was really interesting and we had a great time!

Balanced and unbalanced forces

To demonstrate how forces affect how an object moves we played Tug of War! We found out that when the forces are balanced the rope didn't move but when the forces were unbalanced, the rope moved.

Targets

As a school, we have changed the way we use maths targets. Children will now be given layered targets at the start of each unit and this will help them to progress further within the topic. These will be stuck into their maths books prior to each unit and you will be able to view these at Parents’ evening.

Please see below for targets in reading and science:

Trip to Burbage Brook

Last week, we visited Burbage Brook in the Peak District as part of our topic on rivers.  It was great to actually be able to see the features of rivers that we had been learning about in the classroom.

We also carried out some geographical fieldwork such as measuring the depth and width of the river in different places and measuring the speed of the river by throwing in dog biscuits and seeing how long they took to travel down the river.  We all had a great day and learnt lots about rivers!
